The design concept originated from the imagery of mountain cities in Chongqing, where the undulating hills and converging rivers lead to a sublime natural phenomenon. Like a floating mountain town on the river, the architecture is also a sculpture within the city. The engraved volume resembles a massive rock; as if floating on a light glass box, the exterior stained-glass curtain walls symbolize the natural texture of rocks, which forms a rhythmic and vivid exterior facade. Diffused through the stained glass, the intricate and diversify imagery of light portrays the architecture as a floating mountain town, an ink-washed painting of mountain floating among the clouds.

On the facade of the building, the stained glass mimics the grains of the mountain ridges, forming an exterior texture that resembles the lightness and rhythm of reflected clouds on water. Through the gradual changes of lighting, the exterior facade shifts from hefty textures to gentle patterns, resonating with the characteristics of ink-washed landscape painting.

The interchanging characteristics of volume and materiality between gentle and heavy, virtual and realistic, light and dark create an architectural imagery that differs during the day and at night. The building also responds to the historical mountain culture of Chongqing City, depicting the interwoven connections between nature and humanity, while illustrating the natural textures between mountain cities and rivers.

重如山石, 輕如雲水

建築的設計概念發想自重慶的山城意象, 四面起伏巨大的山勢以及江河匯集的自然景觀特質. 本建築有如一座漂浮在江上的立體山城, 也是城市中的一座立體雕塑。立體翻折的量體彷若一個厚重的山岩，漂浮在輕透的玻璃盒子之上，建築外觀是有像徵自然山岩紋理的彩釉玻璃幕牆, 形成一個自然律動具有生命力的建築外觀. 透過彩釉玻璃漫射出的是豐富多元的燈光意象, 像是一座漂浮的山城, 一座漂浮在雲霧之間的水墨浮山。

建築外觀上的彩釉玻璃上有著如山嶺紋理般的虛實紋理, 形成一個如水面浮雲般輕柔而律動外牆質感、透過漸變的燈光創造出外觀上厚重與輕柔的變化, 如水墨山水般的外觀效果。

透過量體與材質的輕重、虛實、明暗之間, 創造出在白天與夜晚截然不同的建築意象. 也呼應著重慶曆史悠久的山城文化, 描述著自然與人文之間的交織呼應，體現著山城與江水之間的自然紋理。
